One Month before the UFC

Posted by Edgar Garcia On May - 18 - 2009

Last Week I slowed down my two a day practices and went back to one a days just for the week. We are going back to two a days this week and here on out for the remainder of the camp. My camp is still at Arizona Athletic Club. I am continuing to work all aspects of my game and expect my opponent to be training hard. My cardio seems to be where it should be at this time, and I feel stronger than any other camp at a month out.

Yesterday I cornered my cousin Alex Garcia at RITC in Tucson. He got a pretty nice armbar with a triangle locked up agaisnt 5-2 Steve Maultsby out of Apex in Tucson. Alex is now 8-4. He is looking tough should be making noise again soon.

grapplers quest results…

so this weekend was an absolute blast, i road-tripped up to las vegas with my boy james strang, it was going to be his first bjj tournament and i could feel his nervous excitement the whole drive. we met up with some of my other boys who were competing: dj saylor, andy grooms, mike martin, dylan means, charlie brown, and josh jones who i drove back with…all in all we did pretty well, dj saylor place 2nd in his gi and no-gi division, while dylan means took 1st in his gi division and 2nd in his no-gi division, mike martin also returned home with some nice shiny hardware, and in his first ever bjj tournament james strang took 2nd place in his gi division, congratulations to all of you guys you battled your butts off…of course there’s many things to take away from this event but the main thing for me was simply to PASS THE GUARD, my guys had a major brain fart in their earlier matches when it came to passing the guard and we lost a few matches because of it but when we did start to do what we do everyday in practice and pass the guard good things happened and we won those matches…i think that it’s great to do competitions even if you are just a regular bjj student who has a 9-5, it’s great because it gives you something to train for, a concrete, tangible event to prepare for and it’s good also because competition really sharpens your game and makes your weaknesses and what you need to work on really evident, so i definitely encourage all students to just go ahead and sign up for your next local tournament and go have fun…

grapplers quest…

so i’m heading out this weekend to go coach some of my boys at a grapplers quest tournament tomorrow up in las vegas, vegas is always super fun so it should be a good time, plus i get to watch my guys beat up on some suckas, hehe, no i am really excited though to watch my guys compete and just go out there and showcase some skills that they’ve been working pretty hard on, we’re still a pretty young school but our guys train hard and it’s good for them to have something to show everybody how much time and effort they’ve been dedicating to this their sport/hobby of choice…i will not be competing, it’s nothing really personal but last time i competed at a grapplers quest they kind of disrespected me on the internet and stuff so i just choose to not give them any of my money, hehe…oh yeah and i need to definitely give a BIG shout out and props to my mother for getting remarried two weekends ago, i’m happy that she’s found someone who makes her happy and will be there for her…

I have began training for my fight on June 20 last week. This be my UFC debut and I came back to Yuma for my camp. I will be training at Arizona Athletic Club as usual.
Last week was the beginning of two a day practices since my last fight in January. I am training hard in all areas. I am working on my conditioning at this point just to get back in shape and hopefully. I am training from 11 to 1:30 and again at 5:30 to 8:00 Mon- Fri and Saturday mornings. Stay tuned to my blog for updates in my training.
Thank you for the support!
